Time and Money

Wow, where has the time gone?  I feel like these last two weeks have just flown by!  It has just been so busy!

For starters, this week my partner in crime and I (Mrs. Tallman, the other first grade teacher), put the breaks on and took time off of our curriculum to have our annual "Time and Money Week".  Our curriculum gets a lot deeper into these than I think most first grades do.  Are any of you non-ABeka first grade teachers delving into the wonderful topic of counting mixed coins--quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies?  We have it a lot!  And I'm not gonna lie, it's always a doozy for five or six of them.  This year is no different.  Also, our curriculum has us telling time in five minute increments.   Most of them are good with this, but again--there's always a few who just can't wrap their heads around it.  This week was for them!

So basically, on Time and Money Week, every single thing revolves around time and money.  From penmanship papers to phonics to spelling words to Bible time.  We really hit it hard!  Now, there have definitely been times in this week when I wanted to bang my head against the chalkboard----but I didn't!  (Small victory!)  But, I knew it was going to be alright when the second grade teacher down the hallway complimented Mrs. Tallman and myself on how well we prepared last year's classes.  Yay!

So, while there are still some who don't have the lightbulb lit up over their sweet little heads as of yet, I know they will get it eventually.  What's your take?
